Free Desmyter '(°1967) studied under Rob Madna at the Amsterdam School of the Arts.
He teaches General Music Theory, Piano Harmony, Ensemble Rhythm Section, and Improvisation Training at the renowned Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. In 2014, Free Desmyter goes to Mozambique for a project with Musicfund and the Royal Conservatoy of Antwerpen, and teaches at the University Edwardo Mondlane in Maputo.
He works as a composer arranger of his own projects (such as The Takenouchi Documents.) ; and he composes on commission.
F.I. Jesus" based on the novel from J.M. Coetzee (Nobel Prize in Literature). A production by "Toneelhuis" produced by Guy Cassiers and directed by Mohkallad Rasem.
His work as jazzpianist, composer, arranger, is an amalgam of different musical styles. And he moves, as to say, as a cameleon into jazz, classical and worldmusic.
Free Desmyter obtained prices, such as Prix Nicolas d'Or, Sabamprice , and the national "Creole German Wordmusic Award with de Irakee-German-Belgian formation "Ahoar", for which he composed in the Persian musical stylel: maqam with a new approach.
A live recording session by Deutsche Welle Bonn for a meeting of Irakee journalists has been broadcasted in Bagdad during the war, as statement.

International career in jazz and world
He toured with the African band N'Faly Kouyaté and Dunyakan in Canada, England and Belgium, by which concerts, interviews have been broadcasted by BBC World and Canadian TV and radiostations. And he orchestrated music from N'Faly Kouyaté played by the Mons Chamber Orchestra with the "Chris Joris Experience" band in the concerthall in Bruges.
Since 2002, Free Desmyter participates with Chris Joris 's projects. And he records 2 CD's, 1 DVD. The CD "Out of the night" receives the radio VRT Klara Music Award.
Free Desmyter receives carte blanche by the culture ambassador from Boedapest for the project Flemisch Masters in Hongary.
The Free Desmyter Quartet CD "Something to share", was also well received by the international press.
